At What Cost Media? At What Cost You?
I’m looking down the road ahead me, because the road behind is already set in stone. It’s the paths we’re currently on that we can choose..
Even sitting here typing this causes Rupert Murdock’s pockets to grow.
We give so much of our lives away to media that we don’t even exist anymore. We give so much of ourselves - America the great consumers of the world. Deny it up and down, no one even realises it.
And at what point, what point is enough enough? Are we really happy? Are we really content? Or are we just complacent? Happy to be fed the McWorld and take the easy way out, because to forge our own paths is too much work.
How much is you? How much is what you are told? Peel away the urges to collect a brand, or a logo. Take the jingles out of your head, or the unexplainable "cravings" for something, and what do you find yourself truly desiring? What are your aspirations. What about when you were a child, what did you want to DO?
And now what do you do? Why do you do it?
Why wasting time, you? How much time do you surf the channels, or listen to music you aren’t really enjoying, or spend time browsing stores, to settle on items, eager to consume and fill this void, but you don’t know why. That shopping rush. You consume, you buy these trivialities, and what for? "You can’t take it with you", well what can you take? Experiences, memories, that’ll be what is important (no "funny" alzheimers jokes please), you won’t remember the brand of detergent you washed your clothes in when you are "on the other side" more fondly than those days spent doing your life’s passions. Who is passionate about detergent? If you, maybe you should spend some time to really connect with yourself.
The weather is kind again, please take care to turn off the computer, turn off the television, get out there and LIVE now. Put away all of these medias influences, and find out who you are. Every hour you are zombie voiding at the box, is like two hours of your life you could be painting, gardening, connecting with those you love, or creating music. Creating things to enjoy and to leave your legacy when you go. Why watch a man climb a mountain when you can be the one to experience it?
