Jan. 31st, 2005 09:33 pmWe need to do something. A 2 degree increase in world temperature is likely to cause serious (more serious than the current problems) by 2026. I know a lot of you are probably going to just sit on that statement, and figure someone will have done something by then, but if everybody thinks that way, then who is going to be the one to do something?
Lots of you love polar bears. Well, global warming melting the ice caps is BADLY affecting the polar bears. We're lucky we have some in captivity...
This is going to become a serious problem.
We NEED to do something.
We NEED to recycle. We NEED to get involved. We NEED to donate time, and if not time, money, and if not money just spread the word, about local organisations, local charities, groups and commitees that are dedicated to stop the pollution, stop the poaching, stop the development in unpopulated areas, stop all these things from happening while there's still some time.
People don't care because they think this isn't going to happen in their lifetime, this is going to affect them directly, I'm fucking telling you it will. 2026 is not long away. Most of you will be in your 40's or late 30's. This is not far off.
I'm not going off on some sort of apocolyptic drabble. No this is worse. This isn't the end of the world, this is just the fucking beginning of hell. I'm not speaking religiously either, you guys know I don't go that route. I'm just saying, this will be the living equivelant of hell.
How many of you are ready to do something about this?
How many of you will find a way? How many of you are ready to start checking to see if you're using recycled goods? How many of you are going to recycle everything? Not just soda cans and plastic bottles. I'm talking newspapers, magazines, cereal boxes, tin cans, the whole bit you guys, it can all be recycled. Think of what a difference it would be if people really knew everything they could recycle. Think of how much waste that would cut down on? How much less would be sitting in the landfills.
How many of you are ready to use earth-friendly dish soaps, laundry detergents, and cleaning agents?
Please. I'm begging you.
And what if.. what if you made a commitment. What if you decided that everytime you bought a meal out, in a restaraunt, take away joint, coffee shop, whatever.. or just anytime you buy something and you pay with cash. What if each time you did that, you took any coins you got back in your change, and you put it in a jar. What if at the end of the month, or end of the week, whenever, you take that jar, and you donate it to an environmental charity. Fuck, if you want, I'm more than willing to find a worthwhile charity in your area.
Please get involved. This planet is your home, and you have a voice. This planet is also the home to millions upon million of animals that don't have a voice. They're counting on you to use yours.
