Jun. 23rd, 2008 08:39 amAwww, Juls, you posted a survey Friday-ish that I was about to do but it was gone :P
Had a good weekend - didn't go out and do much, but it felt great to stay in and be mundane :) Got a ton of work done in the backyard, and also did a fairly good house cleaning including shampooing the carpet and couch. Matt put a pretty black fence around the front yard as well :D
As far as fun stuff goes, did my eyebrow appointment on Saturday, did some shopping, went to the drive in cinema, and last night Matt got to try out the grill I got him for his birthday! Yum!
My mid 2008 resolution is to be more charitable. I've sent an email to the Idaho Humane Society for the form to set up a monthly funds transfer to donate to them. I'm thinking $50 a month, I really feel that Idaho is a bit lacking in the care for homeless animals, and instead of donating items, I'd rather donate funds because a lot of charities have cheaper access to needed items than the general public does.
Speaking of charities being able to cheaply access - did you know the Idaho food bank can by about 7lbs of food for a dollar? And nearly 1 in 8 children in Idaho go home hungry every night. The food bank also just lost a sponsor for one of their programs for feeding children (they would send kids that were on the school lunch programs home with a backpack of food for the weekend), so they had to drop that program.....times are tight right now, and charities aren't making it, as more people are needing instead of donating.
I know I bad mouth public assistance programs often - but that is because I do not believe it is the job of the government to force people to offer aid - and often aid that doesn't cut it, and where most of the money brought in to give aid goes to overhead and nit-picky-government-BS. I believe it is the heart of the people to want to reach out and help one another, and I think that if we weren't so bogged down with taxes and demands to give away portions of our income to a government that we see doing a shoddy job at their meager attempts to offer aid...we'd feel a lot more generous.
So we should suck it up...and donate a dollar or two....when you're tempted to go to the snack machine at work...pocket the dollar...remind yourself you could have a bag of chips, OR you could feed a family dinner....you could have a candy bar, or you could buy a bed for a canine friend...you don't have to give up everything, but what about giving up one out of three times? We can all make small differences, and that adds up to a big difference.
